Habitat for Humanity for Manitoba (Habitat Manitoba) is celebrating a season of key ceremonies across the province this summer.
According to a media release, on Saturday (June 24) “two families in Morden received keys to their brand new homes, and over the next couple of months Habitat Manitoba will celebrate an additional five key ceremonies in Brandon, Dauphin and Portage la Prairie.
This amazing milestone is in thanks to the extensive chapter network that Habitat Manitoba has across the province and Kenora, ON. Chapters are made up of volunteers
and staff that represent and carry out the mission of Habitat.”
“Since 1998, chapters have built 80 homes. We are extremely proud that the chapter network started more homes in 2022 than in any other year in our history and also had an exceptional fundraising year,” said Steve Krahn, Senior VP, Program Delivery. “Key ceremonies are an incredible way for families, volunteers, donors and staff to experience all the hard work that brought them here today.”
The release said “Thanks to the many community partners and volunteers who worked tirelessly to help reach this milestone. These homes will provide stability and security for these families through Habitat’s affordable homeownership program, offering families an opportunity to purchase a safe and decent home through a unique financing partnership. Habitat’s path to homeownership is an involved and in-depth process that requires hard work, time and commitment by the future homeowners, all of which helps to strengthen their long-term success.
Since 2019, the federal government has made a total funding commitment of $7,594,922 towards Habitat Manitoba projects, including housing in Morden, Portage La
Prairie, Dauphin and Brandon. This funding commitment from the National Housing Co-Investment Fund includes a Black Families Funding investment of $4,188,425.”
“Everyone deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. This is why the Government of Canada is helping families achieve the dream of homeownership in
Manitoba through the National Housing Co-Investment Fund,” said the Honourable Ahmed Hussen, Minister of Housing and Diversity and Inclusion. “Thanks to this
investment and in partnership with Habitat for Humanity Manitoba, deserving families here in Morden and across the province will realize their dream of owning a home – homes they can proudly call their own – and I hope they find great happiness in them.”
