The province has started making changes to improve safety at the intersection of the Trans-Canada and Highway 5 near Carberry.
A report today (Aug 16) says rumble strips and painted lines were added last week, and new warning signs are to be installed soon. Other safety features being looked at could include erecting flashing warning lights – and possibly a future overpass or cloverleaf. There are apparently no plans to lower the speed limit at the intersection from its current 100-kilometres-per-hour.
Manitoba Transportation and Infrastructure says its Road Safety Assessment is still underway, and a final report is expected to be released this coming October.
There have been two serious crashes at the intersection this summer – one in June, between a mini-bus and a semi-trailer, killed 17 people.
