The City of Brandon is looking at a $1.46-million budget deficit, and all departments have been asked to find $500,000 in savings.
Reasons for the shortfall include extra costs for things like downtown security and the annual library grant, but also revenue losses from the closure of the Sportsplex and lower supplemental taxes.
On the bright side, the city has $2.3 million in additional provincial funding it could tap into.
