Manitoba’s three main political party leaders are to take part in their first leaders forum today, hosted by The Manitoba Heavy Construction Association.
Next week, Progressive Conservative leader Heather Stefanson, NDP leader Wab Kinew and the Liberals Dougald Lamont will face each other again in a televised one-hour debate.
The nomination deadline has also passed for the October 3rd election. The Conservatives and New Democrats each have a full slate of 57 candidates, but the Liberals were unable
to field candidates in eight ridings.
Yesterday, the NDP pledged that more government contract work will go to bidders and workers within Manitoba – and the Tories promised to phase-out the payroll tax over 8 years if re-elected.
The payroll tax brings in about $440-million dollars a year in revenue for the provincial government, but the Conservatives say it hinders economic growth and makes the province less competitive.
