Keystone Agricultural Producers president Jill Verwey said in a statement on Tuesday (Sept 12), “the 2023 provincial election is critical to me both personally and professionally. The decisions made by legislators hold considerable sway over the lives of Manitoba producers like myself, as these choices invariably impact our operations.”
She said, “As the provincial election approaches, I want to highlight five priorities that matter to me as a producer:
-Remove the Education Property Tax on Farmland,
-Pass Right-to-Repair Laws for Farm Machinery
-Improve Infrastructure – Railways, highways, flood infrastructure, wireless communication, ag support services and hydro services
-Solve Labour Shortages in Agriculture and deliver better healthcare and safety in rural areas.
Vewey said you can visit KAP’s newly launched election website at Agriculture Matters (agriculture-matters.ca) to find out more and help lend your voice in support of these priorities.”
Manitobans head to the polls on October 3rd.
KAP says there are 14,500 farms in Manitoba encompassing 17.6 million acres of land, and in the last year alone, the collective efforts of primary producers yielded $9.73 billion in farm income. The Agriculture and Agriprocessing sector employs more than 35,000 Manitobans.
