A pair of $1,000 donations this summer are cementing Masonic support for MiniU.
In a media release today – “The Scottish Rite Charitable Foundation of Canada initially brought forward a $1,000 donation, to go to a local charity of choice for the Valley of Brandon Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry. They chose Mini University at BU and matched the contribution with an additional $1,000 of local money.
“The Foundation is pleased to support this worthwhile cause. We wish you the very best in the work you are doing,” wrote Gordon L. Greasley, 33°, Deputy for MB & NT.
The donations will help support attendance at MiniU by sponsoring children who otherwise may not be able to attend a week of camp.
“I am always impressed by the creativity, positivity, and fun that MiniU brings to learning,” said Dr. Balfour Spence, BU’s Acting Dean of Arts and a member of the Masonic fraternity here in Brandon, who joined fellow fraternity member Derek Kindrat for the presentation. “Being on campus throughout the summer, it is impossible to miss the smiles and energy that accompany troops of Mini U campers as they tackle hands-on learning activities, make new friends, and generally enjoy themselves all day long.”
Mini U at Brandon University offers a huge suite of activities in science, computers, phys. ed., fine arts, performing arts, humanities and more, aiming to provide something for everyone, and offers more than 35 Senior Mini U courses, more than 20 Junior areas, and more than 15 Specialty Camps, with many unique to Westman.
Along with youth day camps over the summer, Mini U also offers occasional programming through the school year. The program also provides leadership development and job opportunities for its university student staff.”
