-In the Manitoba Junior Hockey League exhibition game Tuesday night – the Virden Oil Capitals edged the Portage Terriers 5-4. The regular season starts September 22nd.
-The Brandon Brandon Wheat Kings have two more pre-season games before their regular season begins – also on September 22nd. They’ll host the Moose Jaw Warriors this Friday – before travelling to ‘The Jaw’ on Saturday.
-Both the Brandon Bobcats men’s and women’s soccer teams see action this Sunday, September 17th against the Providence Pilots at Brandon’s Healthy Living Centre Field. The men are currently 1-0-and-1 – while the women are 1-and-1.
-The Assiniboine Community College Cougars men’s and women’s soccer teams also have games this weekend. Both teams will visit the Canadian Mennonite University Blazers on September 16th – and then host CMU at the Brandon Sportsplex on September 17th. Both Cougars teams are 0-and-1.
-The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have practices scheduled today and Thursday before they travel to Hamilton to face the Tiger Cats on Saturday. The 10-and-3 Blue Bombers, who sit in first place in the CFL West, have clinched a playoff spot. The Ti-Cats are 5-and-7. Other games in Week 15 of the CFL include the 10-and-1 Toronto Argonauts in Montreal against the 6-and-6 Alouettes – and the 3-and-10 Edmonton Elks visiting the 6-and-6 Saskatchewan Roughriders – both games are on Friday. And, the 8-and-4 BC Lions entertain the 3-and-9 Ottawa Redblacks on Saturday.
-The Toronto Blue Jays take on the Texas Rangers tonight in Game 3 of their 4-game series – so far, it’s been all Texas. The Rangers beat the Jays 6-3 last night.
-and it’s official the NFL’s New York Jets have lost newly-acquired quarterback Aaron Rodgers for the rest of the season with a torn Achilles tendon. He was injured early in Monday’s game against the Buffalo Bills. Thursday – the 0-and-1 Minnesota Vikings visit the 1-and-0 Philadelphia Eagles.
