On October 13, 2023, at approximately 3:20 am, Brandon police and fire crews responded to a structure fire at a business in the 300 block of Park Avenue East. Police blocked the street as fire fighters worked to douse the blaze, and police say Brandon Fire & Emergency Services continues to monitor the scene. The company, Progressive Westman, sells sanitation and cleaning supplies, also mats, uniforms, custom clothing and promotional items. There’s report yet on how the fire started.

On October 12, 2023, at approximately 3:38 pm, Brandon police responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision in near 9th Street and McLeod Drive. Police say one of the drivers, a 29-year-old female, showed signs of intoxication and was arrested. An adult female passenger in her vehicle was injured and taken to hospital for treatment. The occupant of the second vehicle was uninjured. Police say he driver provided samples of her breath that were more than 3 times the legal limit. She also suffered injuries due to the accident and was taken to the hospital for treatment before she was lodged at Brandon Police Service. She will be released once sober on charges of Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle, Driving While Ability Impaired Causing Bodily Harm and Driving With More Than 80 mgs of Alcohol in Blood.

On October 12, 2023, at approximately 5:30 pm, police observed a male remove mail from a mailbox at a residence in the 700 block of 6th Street. Police confirmed with the homeowner that the suspect did not have reason to have access to the mail. A 33-year-old male was arrested and found to be in possession of a machete upon his arrest. He was lodged at Brandon Police Service and will be released today to appear in court on December 21, 2023, on charges of Theft From Mail and Possess Weapon.

On October 12, 2023, Brandon police responded to a report of a 29-year-old male who had attended to a business in the 800 block of Rosser Ave contrary to conditions of his release order. The male had left prior to police arrival, but he was located at approximately 9:00 pm in the 1500 block of 18th street where he was causing problems for employees of a business. He was arrested and lodged at Brandon Police Service. He will be released to appear in court on a later date.

On October 12, 2023, shortly after 9:00 am, police came across a pedestrian in the 200 block of 11th street who was wanted on outstanding charges of Fail to Attend Court, Mischief Under $5000, theft Under $5000 and Assault. The 29-year-old male was lodged at Brandon Police Service to appear in court.
