Striking Manitoba Public Insurance (MPI) workers are to vote on a tentative contract today (Nov 1).
The Manitoba Government and General Employees’ Union is recommending its 1,700 members accept the package, which it says includes wage increases of 13% over four years plus a signing bonus and other benefits.
It’s an improvement over an offer employees rejected earlier this week that promised a 12.2% wage hike over four years. MPI’s offer also includes a one-time lump sum signing bonus of $1,800 for full-time employees that will be pro-rated for part-time staff.
The strike began in late August, when the Progressive Conservatives were still in office, and has disrupted services at MPI such as driver testing and claims assessments.
