-The Brandon Wheat Kings dropped a 4-3 decision in overtime to the Moose Jaw Warriors last night. Carter Klippenstein, Brett Hyland, and Nolan Flamand scored for Brandon, who got 37 saves from Carson Bjarnason in the loss. This weekend, the Wheat Kings meet the Regina Pats for two games – Saturday at home at Westoba Place – and Sunday in Regina.
-The first place Brandon AAA U18 Wheat Kings meet the second-place Southwest Cougars tonight at Brandon’s J & G Homes Arena. The Cougars, who lost to the Eastman Selects and Winnipeg Thrashers this past weekend, have a 10-and-3 record – while Brandon is undefeated at 12-and-0. The two teams also meet Saturday night in Souris.
-The Winnipeg Jets won their third straight game last night – 6-3 over the Nashville Predators. The Jets host the Dallas Stars on Saturday. Also last night – the Sharks edged the Oilers 3-2, the Canadiens beat the Red Wings 3-2 in overtime, and the Canucks topped the Senators 5-2.
-At the National U-18 Women’s Hockey Championship in Dawson Creek – Quebec beat Manitoba 7-4 in the quarterfinals. Team Manitoba plays Team Atlantic today for 7th place.
-The Brandon University Bobcats women’s soccer team plays for 7th place today at Canadian Collegiate Nationals after losing 2-1 to UKC yesterday. The men lost 2-0 to Keyano and play their final game against UKC today. And the Bobcats men’s and women’s basketball teams play their home-openers tonight against the Thompson Rivers Wolf Pack.
-The Winnipeg Blue Bombers take on the BC Lions in the CFL West Division Final on Saturday afternoon at IG Field. In the East – Toronto hosts Montreal. The winners will meet in the 110th Grey Cup Game in Hamilton on November 19th.
In the NFL Thursday Night game – the Chicago Bears beat the Carolina Panthers 16-13. The Bears improved to 3-and-7 – while the 1-and-8 Panthers are tied with Arizona for the worst record in the league.
-Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones beat American Delaney Strouse 8-5 on Thursday morning to remain unbeaten at the Grand Slam of Curling’s Kioti National. Jones, who won the circuit’s season-opening HearingLife Tour Challenge last month in Niagara Falls, Ont., was tied at 3-and-0 with South Korea’s Eun Ji Gim. Play continues through Sunday.
-and Manitoba’s Kyle Kurz, Beth Peterson, Ian McMillan and Melissa Gordon are still perfect at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship in Swift Current, and are a win away from qualifying for the semifinals. Manitoba beat Prince Edward Island 8-2 and Nova Scotia 5-3 on Thursday to sit at 8-and-0. The Manitoba foursome will play their final two Championship Pool games today against Ontario (6-2) and Saskatchewan (7-1).
