-In the NHL Wednesday night, the Canucks overcame a two-goal deficit and beat the Islanders 4-3 in overtime, and the Edmonton Oilers edged the Seattle Kraken also 4-3 in overtime. Edmonton has now won three in-a-row – and is 2-and-0 since Kris Knoblauch replaced Jay Woodcroft as head coach.
-The Neepawa Titans beat the Niverville Nighthawks 5-3 in the MJHL last night. Tonight, the Virden Oil Capitals host the Waywayseecappo Wolverines.
-The prep continues in Hamilton for the 110th Grey Cup game on Sunday between Winnipeg and Montreal. The Blue Bombers finished atop the West Division with a 14-and-4 record – and will play in their 4th straight Grey Cup game. The Als ranked second in the East at 11-and-7 – but are riding a 7-game winning streak into the big game.
-The CFL awards will be handed out tonight in Niagara Falls. Winnipeg running back Brady Oliveira is the West Division finalist for the Most Outstanding Player award and Most Outstanding Canadian. Jermarcus Hardrick of the Blue Bombers is in the running for Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman. Winnipeg’s Mike O’Shea and Ryan Dinwiddie of the Toronto Argonauts are up for Coach of the Year honours.
-The Baltimore Ravens are at home to the Cincinnati Bengals tonight in the NFL. The 7-and-3 Ravens want the win to stay in first place in the AFC North – while the 5-and-4 Bengals cannot afford another loss if they want to stay in contention for the division crown.
-The Toronto Raptors lost 128-112 to the visiting Milwaukee Bucks last night. The Raptors were outscored 36-20 in the opening quarter – and couldn’t close the gap.
-Major League Baseball owners have voted to approve the relocation of the Oakland Athletics to Las Vegas, multiple sources tell The Associated Press. A 75 per cent vote of the 30 teams was necessary to make the move, which was endorsed by baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred. The A’s will be the first M-L-B team to relocate since the Montreal Expos became the Washington Nationals in 2005.
-and Major League Baseball is proposing cutting the pitch clock from 20 seconds to 18 seconds with runners on base. The pitch clock would remain at 15 seconds with no runners on base.
