The victim of a hammer attack in Brandon has reportedly died at Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg.
This past Monday, firefighters pulled Eric Lepine from a burning house on 15th Street. Police say he was suffering from severe head injuries after being attacked with a hammer, and was taken to Brandon Regional Health Centre before being airlifted to Winnipeg. He died at HSC on Wednesday. A second victim suffered minor injuries in the attack.
A GoFundMe page has been set-up to help Lepine’s family with funeral costs and travel expenses.
On November 16, 2023, Brandon police arrested 32-year-old Ryan Mecas, while he was in Brandon Correctional Centre, on an additional Charge of Second-Degree Murder. He is to appear today in court.
Mecas appeared in court on November 13, 2023, on charges of Aggravated Assault, Assault with a Weapon and Arson with Disregard for Human Life.
