-The Winnipeg Jets hope to make it three wins-in-a-row tonight when they visit the Colorado Avalanche. Elsewhere – the Senators take on the Maple Leafs, the Canadiens host the Kings, the Flames entertain the Hurricanes, and the Canucks are at home to the Minnesota Wild.
-Last night, Zach Hyman scored a hat trick and Connor McDavid recorded three assists as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Carolina Hurricanes 6-1. The Oilers have now won 5 straight – and McDavid improved his point streak to seven games.
-Future Hall-of-Famer Patrick Kane will make his debut with the Red Wings tonight against the Sharks. Kane played parts of 16 years with the Chicago Blackhawks before he was traded to the New York Rangers at last season’s deadline. The 35-year-old joins Detroit after undergoing off-season hip surgery.
-Just one game tonight in the MJHL. The Virden Oil Capitals are home to the Steinbach Pistons. The defending champion Pistons lead the East Division at 20-3-1-0…while Virden tops the West at 17-5-2-2. The Portage Terriers ended Steinbach’s 11-game winning streak on Sunday with a 3-1 win. Virden is coming off a 2-1 victory over the Dauphin Kings on Tuesday.
-The New York Yankees have acquired three-time all-star Juan Soto along with gold glove centre fielder Trent Grisham from the San Diego Padres for a package of players and prospects last night. The Blue Jays were rumoured to have been interested in Soto.
-There were a couple of big CFL off-season moves Wednesday. Scott Milanovich rejoined the league’s head coaching ranks, this time with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. He coached the Toronto Argonauts to a Grey Cup title in 2012. And the Montreal Alouettes extended the contract of Grey Cup MVP quarterback Cody Fajardo through the 2015 season.
-The 7-and-5 Pittsburgh Steelers host the 2-and-10 New England Patriots to kick off Week 14 of the NFL season. The Steelers lost to the Arizona Cardinals at home last week – the Patriots have lost five in a row.
-and in the NBA – the Toronto Raptors fell 112-103 to the Miami Heat. The Raptors, who are now 9-and-12 this season, play the Charlotte Hornets on Friday.
