Project Red, an annual holiday campaign put on by the Assiniboine Community College Students’ Association and in partnership with the Assiniboine Community College Foundation, focuses on
easing financial stress from students’ lives by providing holiday hampers to students in need.
This year, Project Red ran from November 28th to December 10th, and the ACC Students’ Association saw an overwhelming number of hamper applicants in comparison to last year, many of which needed to be waitlisted due to the amount of applications.
“The need for assistance this year was almost four times greater than last year, and it put into perspective how difficult the holiday season can be for some.” said Alyshia Holden, Program
Coordinator at the ACC Students’ Association.
As food prices continuously increase, on-campus food security remains a top priority at the Assiniboine Community College Students’ Association, and the need for extra financial assistance among students becomes all that more pressing in the college community, which is why Project Red was a much-needed support for students this year. This year, hampers were centered around
providing holiday meals in the form of gift cards for individuals and their families. The Students’ Association amplified their commitment to students at ACC to ensure every student is able enjoy the holidays, free of the financial burden that can accompany the holiday season.
This year, the ACCSA has raised an incredible $10,629 dollars for Project Red.
“This was a substantial undertaking, and I am pleased to say we were successful in helping every applicant. 125 hampers were made that will go to support more than 300 individuals this holiday season. These hampers will have a significant impact on the students who will receive them, especially in times of inflation and the rising costs of food,” said ACC Students’ Association Council President, Jonn Olson.
The donation amount raised wouldn’t be possible without the assistance of the Assiniboine Community College Foundation and Assiniboine Community College staff members who helped raise awareness of this campaign, as well as the many donors who helped bring the holiday campaign to fruition.
The Students’ Association says the efforts provided by everyone involved with Project Red will help Assiniboine students have one less worry this year, which is the best holiday gift of all.
