-The Winnipeg Jets are in sole possession of first place in the NHL Central Division standings. They beat Detroit 5-2 to jump a point over Dallas and Colorado. Gabriel Vilardi extended his goal scoring streak to four games, Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, Nikolaj Ehlers, Neal Pionk and Mark Scheifele also scored for the Jets, who have has just two regulation losses in their last 10 games. Next action for Winnipeg is Friday (Dec 22) when they host the Boston Bruins who lead the Atlantic Division.
-The Brandon Triple-A U18 Wheat Kings made it 10 wins in-a-row by beating the Southwest Cougars 4-1 last night in Souris. With the win, the Wheat Kings extended their first-place lead to 9 points over the second-place Cougars. Brady Turko scored all 4 goals. Brandon will now finish off their pre Christmas schedule with a game tonight at the J&G Homes Arena against the Pembina Valley Hawks.
-Pilot Mound will host the 2025 Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts. CurlManitoba says the women’s provincial championship will be held January 21st to 26th at Pilot Mound’s Millennium Recreation Complex. The 2024 Provincial Scotties is set for January 23rd to 28th at the Access Event Centre in Morden.
-In the NBA – the reigning champion Denver Nuggets beat the Toronto Raptors 113-104. The Nuggets have won five of their last six games.
-The Grey Cup Champion Montreal Alouettes have signed their coach and GM to long-term deals. G-M Danny Maciocia has signed a new contract through 2027 – and head coach Jason Maas gets a new deal through 2026. The Alouettes upset the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in the CFL championship game last month.
-The Blue Bombers have agreed to terms on a two-year extension with Canadian linebacker Tanner Cadwallader. He was set to become a free agent in February. The 26-year-old from Georgetown, Ontario returns for his 4th CFL season, all with the Blue Bombers.
-In the NFL Thursday Night game – the Los Angeles Rams host the New Orleans Saints. Both teame are 7-and-7.
-and Major League Soccer is out with its 2024 season schedule. A game that’s expected to generate a lot of interest is the Vancouver Whitecaps match on May 25th against superstar Lionel Messi and ‘Inter Miami’.
