New projects are in the works at the Brandon Riverbank Discovery Centre this year.
Executive Director Dean Hammond told city councillors on Monday (Jan 22) that they hope to fill in trail gaps on paths along the Assiniboine River including under the 18th Street Bridge, begin a new garden project next to the Ducks Unlimited building, and start Phase One of the Sawatzky Sculpture Gardens.
He also said that Heritage Canada is cutting funding in half for the Riverbank’s Canada Day celebrations, so they’ve requested that the city cover the costs of fireworks for July 1st. Other funding requests included $478,793 for operating funds, $250,000 in capital funding – and $200,000 toward the footpath for the Sawatzky Gardens.
Hammond also reported to council that visits to the centre and the Fusion Credit Union stage were each up by more than 40% in 2023.
