Manitoba premier Wab Kinew says his NDP government will focus on working to fix health-care, make people and communities safer, and grow the economy with strong protections for workers in the spring session which begins today (Mar 6).
Kinew said in a media release, “After years of cuts, closures and division, our government is taking a new approach. This session’s agenda will put Manitoba on a positive path forward with better health care, safer communities and an economy that puts workers first. There’s a lot of work ahead of us and we’re ready to deliver for Manitobans.”
Also on the government’s agenda is legislation to ban replacement workers. A report today says some business group are concerned that such a ban would force employers to shut down in the event of a strike or lockout – while the Manitoba Chambers of Commerce says the current labour environment is balanced.
The new government’s first budget will also be introduced during this session, on April 2nd, and will deliver on government’s commitments to fix health care, lower costs for people with new affordability relief and strengthen the economy, noted the premier.
