Since 1954, thousands of firefighters from different departments all across North American proudly carried their boots through the streets collecting donations for those with Muscular Dystrophy.
In Brandon, the tradition continues this week, and has been expanded to include a 4 day – 4 member Rooftop Campout, bagging groceries for a “buck for luck” at Sobeys, hosting Bud Spud & Steak nights and many more events.
Local firefighter/paramedics not only collect for Muscular Dystrophy, but also collect for the Cerebral Palsy Association of Manitoba and the Brandon Firefighter’s Charity Fund. This is a fund from which BFES donates to local causes. BFES says “We are extremely proud to have collected over $500,000 for charities from these fundraisers in the past, and this year we are going to increase that number.”
Firefighter/Paramedics Scotty Ryan, Brian Wenham, Wiley Speiss and Cody Young will be camping out on the roof of #2 Fire Hall (1301 13th St) until Friday. Brandon members have also started a boot drive in front of #2 Fire Hall from 8 am to 6pm until this Friday March 15/24. They say “Please watch for us, slow down when driving by and help us with reaching our goal.”
