Around 350 high school students will take part in the 2nd annual Trades Summit being held in Brandon today.
It’s hosted by Assiniboine Community College and the Construction Association of Rural Manitoba at ACC’s North Hill Campus.
Students can ‘Try-a-Trade’ at workshops that include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, automotive, roofing – and more. The college says there was such high demand for the one-day event this year that they plan to expand it to two days in 2025.
There will also be about 25 booths for an employer tradeshow, and students are encouraged to bring their resumes if they are interested in an entry-level job this summer.
Skilled labour is in big demand, and the government wants to increase the skilled trades by 10-thousand in the next 8 years.
