-The Brandon AAA U18 Wheat Kings opened the Telus Cup National Championship in Nova Scotia with a 5-1 loss to the Magog Cantonniers representing the Quebec region. Brady Turko scored the Wheat Kings lone goal on a breakaway pass from Jaxon Jacobson in the second period. Brandon plays the host Sydney Rush this evening. Josh Macgregor was the Wheat Kings player of the game and received a hand painted wooden replica hockey stick recognizing the Membertou, Nova Scotia area as the birthplace of the first hockey stick.
-In the NHL playoffs last night – the Leafs beat the Bruins 3-2 to tie their series at one, the Hurricanes downed the Islanders 5-3, the Golden Knights edged the Stars 4-3 – and the Oilers topped the Kings 7-4. Carolina leads their series 2-0, while Vegas and Edmonton lead 1-0.
-The Winnipeg Jets and Colorado Avalanche play Game 2 of their first-round playoff series tonight. The Jets lead the series 1-0.
-The Winkler Flyers take on the defending Manitoba Junior Hockey League champion Steinbach Pistons tonight in Game 3 in the best-of-seven Turnbull Cup final. The Flyers lead the series 2-0 after beating the Pistons 2-1 and 3-1 last weekend.
-Gimli, Manitoba’s Kadriana and Colton Lott remained undefeated at the world mixed doubles curling championship with a 6-4 win over South Korea on Monday. The Lotts improved their record to 4-0, tied for first atop Group A with Swedish siblings Rasmus and Isabella Wrana. Canada faces Scotland and Sweden today.
-and the Blue Jays beat the Royals 5-3.
