The Fusion Credit Union text line at 204-725-25-25 was blowing up, as were the phone lines, and social media on Q Mornings; after we talked about myself going to a social in Baldur, my home town, this Saturday. I went onto say, if your last name is Dearsley or Johnson, chances are, you are related to “Who” the social is for! It is actually for Chelsea Dearsley, engaged to be married to Riley Rutherford! I know Chelsea’s parents, Darcy and Lianna Dearsley, we went to school together in Baldur!
Of course socials are so popular in Manitoba, they celebrate a couple getting married, to throw a few bucks in their pockets, before they say I do! Tim shared he had never heard of a social until he moved to Mb from BC. My nieces, Bobbi and Blair shared the “salami throwing on your shoulder” trick, it’s a thing! It’s real. Lunch is usually served around 11pm, and there is of course sandwich meat, like salami, kubasa, rye bread or buns, pickles, and of course cheese! So, so the story goes, you get a piece of meat, preferably salami, and try and toss it on your friends shoulder, before they notice. The record, is 3 pieces of salami stuck to one guys shoulder before he noticed it was there, that from a listener attending a social in Bruxelle! There is even a web site in Wpg, that you can buy a Salami Shoulder Patch to iron on your jean jacket or plaid shirt, I kid you not! You know what Tim and I will be talking about Monday morning on the radio, socials and salami!
Cheers,
Shelly and Tim
