-The Edmonton Oilers advanced to the second round of the NHL playoffs last night with a 4-3 win over the L-A Kings. Edmonton won the series 4-games-to-1 – and the Dallas Stars are up 3-2 in their series with the Golden Nights after a 3-2 victory. There’s only one game tonight – the Toronto Maple Leafs host the Bruins. Boston leads 3-2.
-In the WHL conference finals – the Saskatoon Blades beat the Moose Jaw Warriors 5-4 in overtime to tie the East final at 2 – and the Portland Winterhawks downed the Prince George Cougars 5-2 to take a 3-1 lead in the West final.
-Canada plays Latvia today in the quarterfinals at the World U18 Hockey Championship in Finland. Canada finished the preliminary round atop Group B at 4-and-0.
-and Winnipeg Blue Bombers Hall of Famer Lyle Bauer has died – he was 65. Bauer was an offensive lineman with the Bombers from 1982 to 1991, and served as the team’s president and CEO from 2000 to 2009. He was also the founder of the ‘Never Alone Cancer Foundation’ that supports cancer patients and their families.
