The Brandon Police Service (BPS) has announced that in order to investigate a growing number of suspicious fires in the city, they’ve teamed with Brandon Fire and Emergency Services to establish an Arson Task Force.
Police say the Office of the Fire Commissioner will also be assisting in the investigation process when requested and needed. BPS says “The Task Force will be dedicated to investigating and preventing these crimes, ensuring the safety and security of the City of Brandon and the Westman area.”
“We encourage residents to report any suspicious activities or information that may assist in our investigations,” says BPS. “The safety of our community is our top priority.”
The most recent arson fire was just this week when the porch of the new transitional housing building on 6th Street was set ablaze, and last weekend two youths were charged in connection with a fire at the Corral Centre Walmart that closed the store for two days.
