-The Los Angeles Dodgers’ Teoscar Hernández won the Major League All-Star Home Run Derby beating Bobby Witt Jr. of the Kansas City Royals 14-13 in the final round Monday night. He hit 49 homers over three rounds. MLB’s 94th All-Star game goes tonight in Arlington, Texas.
-In the South West Baseball League, the Deloraine Royals downed the Rivers Comets 11-4 on Monday night. The Royals now advance to the Provincial Senior AA Championship along with the Boissevain Centennials who finished the season at 14-and-2.
-The CFL’s Edmonton Elks have fired their Head Coach/GM Chris Jones after the team’s 0-and-5 start. Geroy Simon is taking over as general manager – and offensive coordinator Jarious Jackson has assumed interim head coaching duties.
-Five-time Olympic medalist Marc Gagnon has been named the head coach of Canada’s short-track speed skating program. Gagnon had worked as an assistant coach at Speed Skating Canada since 2021 under Sebastien Cros, who will remain with the program as assistant head coach. Gagnon won three gold and two bronze medals over his Olympic career, including two gold and a bronze at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.
-and the Canadian women’s soccer team will face 36th-ranked Nigeria on Wednesday in a closed-door training match in Spain. It’s the final tune-up before Canada opens defense of its title at the Paris Olympics.
