A severe thunderstorm swept through parts of southwestern Manitoba on Saturday night, and the heavy rain and winds that came with it have left behind some severe damage in the town of Foxwarren.
The community of about 90 people roughly an hour and a half northwest of Brandon is left to pick up the pieces after the storm destroyed the roof of their community arena. Photos posted to social media show a huge strip of the arena’s roof ripped off and scattered onto a nearby street or dropped inside the arena itself.
According to user Alex Masse on X, radar showed wind speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour. Debris on the road also forced the closure of Highway 475 at the Foxwarren Access Road.
In 2018, Rink Rater had voted the Foxwarren arena the coldest rink in North America.
