The biggest questions for the Brandon Wheat Kings were on the blueline when training camp ended and the exhibition schedule began. One by one, the Wheat Kings are answering those questions and the blueline is starting to take shape.
Today, the Wheat Kings announced they had traded defenseman Seth Tansem to the Wenatchee Wild. In exchange, Brandon receives a sixth-round pick in the 2027 WHL Prospects Draft.
“With camp closing out, we have some difficult decisions to make” said Marty Murray, General Manager and Head Coach of the Wheat Kings. “We have an abundance of defensemen in Brandon, and some of our younger players have impressed. We wish Seth all the best in Wenatchee!”
Originally acquired from the Prince Albert Raiders in exchange for a fourth-round pick, Tansem suited up in 44 games for the Wheat Kings last season. In those games, he posted three assists and a +2 rating.
With the trade of Tansem, the Wheat Kings are down to 14 forwards, nine defensemen, and three goaltenders on their roster. Because three players (forward Marcus Nguyen, defenseman Charlie Elick, and goaltender Carson Bjarnason) are away at NHL camps, the opening night roster for the Wheat Kings is more or less set.
Opening night against the Moose Jaw Warriors is this Friday at 7:00.
