A large-scale search in Shamattawa First Nation for a 6-year-old-boy was to resume today. RCMP say Johnson Redhead attended a breakfast program at his school on Wednesday, but didn’t show up for class later. About 50 to 100 volunteers helped search Thursday, and a drone and police dog will be deployed today.

Brandon police are warning about a text-message scam telling you to pay an unpaid parking ticket. Police say it’s an attempt to try and steal your information, so don’t click on any links. The city only issues bylaw tickets directly in person, to a vehicle or by mail.

Earlier this week, Brandon city councillors approved the sale of several city-owned lots on 6th Street to Habitat for Humanity for $1.00. The group plans to build up to 26 homes on the block in the the Assiniboine Gardens area beginning in 2026.

New research has found many young people are opting to leave Manitoba due to several concerns, including safety and career opportunities. In the last decade, we’ve lost about 25,000 people between the ages of 15 and 34. The Manitoba Chambers of Commerce says we need to do a better job of promoting the province including its lower cost of living.

The Americans are now doing something Canadians were promised they could do more than a year ago – they can renew their passports online. Canada is still testing its system, and says while the tests have been successful – there’s no date yet for a rollout.

An updated version of Novavax’s COVID-19 vaccine has been approved by Health Canada. On Tuesday, the agency also authorized an updated Moderna vaccine called Spikevax, which is expected to begin arriving soon.
