As part of Truth and Reconciliation Week – the Brandon Police Service, Brandon Urban Aboriginal Peoples Council and Truth and Reconciliation Week Committee are hosting ‘Pulling Together’ on September 28, 2024, at 1:00 pm.
The event brings together members of the Indigenous community and public service to paddle side by side down the Assiniboine River from Dinsdale Park to the Riverbank Discovery Centre.
‘Pulling Together’ is more than just a paddle; it’s about building bridges where there have been divides. It acknowledges the historical tensions between Indigenous communities and public services, while also demonstrating that by working together, we can move forward in a good way. The act of paddling in harmony symbolizes unity, mutual respect, and the shared goal of understanding one another.
This event reflects the commitment to healing and reconciliation, showing how we can actively build stronger relationships and trust within our community. It’s a step forward in demonstrating that reconciliation is not just a goal, but an ongoing process rooted in empathy and cooperation.
Important Note: All participants are required to wear a (provided!) personal flotation device (PFD) to be part of this event.
We invite everyone to join this meaningful journey towards unity, reflection and a better future.
