Two men face a long list of charges relating to drugs, firearms, and resisting arrest after a dangerous flight from police. Ultimately, it took a police dog and a drone to track down one of the two suspects.
According to police, at about 6:45 in the evening on September 22, they tried to pull over a vehicle on Mountain Avenue in Dauphin. When they activated their lights, police said the driver then tried to flee.
The driver allegedly ran a red light on Main Street and struck another vehicle, and then spun and struck a 26-year-old male pedestrian. The suspect vehicle then continued and struck a parked vehicle. At this time, the driver and passenger fled on foot. The passenger was taken into custody a short while later.
That was when RCMP brought in a drone operator and PSD Marook to track the driver. Their search led them across the Vermillion River, where they arrested the alleged driver.
Searching the vehicle, RCMP said they found a loaded shotgun, a large sum of Canadian currency, and a substance believed to be cocaine. They also said the driver of the vehicle that was struck was unhurt, while the pedestrian the driver allegedly hit was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Samuel Flatfoot, 26, of Dauphin, was the driver and is charged with charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle, Flight from Peace Officer, Resists/Obstructs Peace Officer, and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.
Marcus George, 22, of Swan River, was the passenger. He is charged with Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Resist/Obstructs Peace Officer x2, and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.
Both have been remanded. They are presumed innocent.
The investigation continues.
