-The Brandon Wheat Kings are 10th in the Canadian Hockey League Top-10 Rankings. The Wheat Kings are 3-and-1 to start the 2024/25 WHL season. The Brampton Steelheads (OHL) are ranked number one, followed by the Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL), London Knights (OHL) and Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL). On Friday, the Wheat Kings begin a three-game homestand when they welcome the Edmonton Oil Kings.
-The Winnipeg Jets host the Calgary Flames tonight as the NHL pre-season continues. Winnipeg is 1-and-3 with two exhibition games left before the start of the regular season. The Jets will open things up against the Oilers in Edmonton on October 9th.
-The Major League Baseball wildcard series continue today with the Detroit Tigers in Houston against the Astros, the Baltimore Orioles at home to the Kansas City Royals, the New York Mets visit the Milwaukee Brewers – and the Atlanta Braves are in San Diego against the Padres. The Tigers, Royals, Mets and Padres all lead their series 1-0.
