Manitoba RCMP have arrested two 16-year-old boys, and charged one with second-degree murder, in the death of a 21-year-old Brandon man. The victim was found unresponsive in a park in Swan River last Friday.

At Brandon City Council on Monday, the Western Manitoba Centennial Auditorium made a plea for a new funding agreement to help cover maintenance issues, and create a more stable future. The venue does post small surpluses, but doesn’t have enough for large capital upgrades. The mayor says talks between the city and the province on a new funding model are ongoing.

Also on Monday, Brandon city councillors endorsed the Brandon Police Service’s future purchase of a vehicle to be used for recruitment events. The Police Board had already approved up to $125,000 to buy a vehicle and wanted to get council’s okay. The money will come from a projected operational surplus.

A local family reportedly collected enough food to supply Brandon’s Samaritan House Ministries for two weeks. It was the second straight year the Mitchell family hosted their Halloween ‘Scare Away Hunger’ food drive at their Cedar Hollow Haunted House. Visitors donated more than 1,500 items for the food bank, triple last year’s amount.
