More than 140 people attended the Brandon United Way’s ‘Tree Trimming and Auction’ fundraiser last night. The decorated trees and presents will be donated to local families, and money raised from the auction will support
United Way programs like Coats for Kids and Tools for Schools. $23,615 was raised, almost $10,000 more than last year’s total.

The City of Brandon’s resolution to expand photo radar and red light cameras passed this week at the Association of Manitoba Municipalities meeting, now it’s up to the province to approve the idea which could take a couple of years. A Brandon Sun report today said 85% of revenue generated from the devices goes to the company that operates them with the city and the province sharing the rest.

The Liberals’ GST holiday bill is one step closer to becoming law after it was passed in the House of Commons last night. The bill now goes to the senate. The two-month tax break on a host of goods and services is to begin December 14th.

The province has introduced a new feature on Manitoba 511 they say will make your winter driving safer. ‘Track My Plow’ provides real-time snow-clearing updates and is available on Manitoba 511’s website and smartphone app. It’ll track active snowplows and where they’ve been for the past two hours.

The Brandon police armoured vehicle was used to knock out the front window of a home on 15th Street Wednesday night, which convinced those inside to come out. Several people were arrested. Police did not say why they were there, but a neighbour told the Brandon Sun, the place has had drug problems.

A new consumer survey finds fewer drivers plan to make their next car purchase an electric vehicle. The report found buyers had concerns about the limited range of EV’s, the price, and a lack of charging infrastructure.
Overall, the survey found the number of people looking to buy a new car is up 6%.

Starting next week, Air Canada is rolling out facial recognition technology. Customers boarding most domestic flights in Vancouver will be able to walk onto the plane without presenting any physical pieces of I-D, such as a passport or driver’s licence. To take advantage, you’ll have to upload a photo and a scan of your passport to the airline’s app.
