Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Liberals won a fourth consecutive mandate in Monday’s federal election. However, the Liberals did not reach the number needed for a majority government, and will need to work with
other parties to pass legislation. Both Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre and NDP leader Jagmeet Singh lost their seats.

A 26-year-old man was arrested early Monday morning after a nurse was attacked at Brandon hospital. Police say the suspect spit in the nurse’s face, grabbed her around the neck and tried to stab her with a needle. The nurse was able to escape without physical injuries.

The sex assault trial of five former members of Canada’s world junior hockey team is set to continue today in London, Ontario. Michael McLeod, Carter Hart, Alex Formenton, Dillon Dube and Callan Foote have all pleaded
not guilty in connection with an encounter at a hotel room in the city in 2018.

A new surgical robot is in use at Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre that helps doctors perform minimally invasive operations and improve recovery for patients. The $3.6-million Da Vinci Xi surgical robot is being used for thoracic surgery, gynecologic cancer surgery, and urology.

A massive study involving 240,000 people found that as you add more ultraprocessed foods to your diet – your risk of a premature death from ANY cause rises. Ultraprocessed foods contain little to no whole food. Instead, they’re manufactured from ‘chemically manipulated cheap ingredients’ and often use ‘synthetic additives to make them edible and habit-forming.’

A 27-year-old student from China was rescued from Japan’s tallest mountain, Mount Fuji, twice in four days – once when he suffered altitude sickness – and a second time when he went back up to look for his cellphone and developed altitude sickness again. There are no charges or fees for being rescued from Mount Fuji – and there’s no word if he found his stuff.
