Manitoba Egg Farmers (MEF) says with more Manitobans reaching out for help, they’re doubling their regular donation of fresh, locally-produced eggs to Harvest Manitoba.
Food bank demand in Manitoba has skyrocketed by 150% since 2020, and Harvest is now serving more than 20,000 households every month – that’s around 100,000 people, including children and seniors. To help meet this critical and growing need, MEF has announced they are doubling their bi-weekly egg donation from 1,800 to 3,600 dozen eggs per month.
“This donation comes at a time when families need it most,” said Vince Barletta, President and CEO at Harvest Manitoba. “Eggs are one of our most requested items. They’re nutritious, versatile and bring joy to our clients. Thanks to Manitoba Egg Farmers, more families will find this welcome surprise in their hampers each month.”
Over the last several years, MEF has donated more than 100,000 dozen eggs to Manitoba families through Harvest Manitoba. In 2020, MEF began regular egg donations to Harvest Manitoba, and in 2024, they strengthened their commitment by establishing a purchasing agreement with Burnbrae Farms, ensuring a reliable, cost-effective supply of eggs for Harvest. Now that partnership is going even further, providing eggs every week to be distributed to Harvest’s agency partners, including 86+ food banks in Winnipeg and dozens more across 45 Manitoba communities, from Brandon to Thompson and the far north.
“The 170 regulated egg and pullet farm families that make up Manitoba Egg Farmers are committed to giving back to the communities that have supported us for generations,” said Don Gaultier, Vice-Chair of Manitoba Egg Farmers. “After visiting Harvest this winter with our Board and staff and seeing firsthand the incredible commitment Harvest employees and volunteers have to feed so many in our province, we are even more proud to be part of something that makes such a meaningful difference.”
Harvest Manitoba is grateful to Manitoba Egg Farmers and the entire agri-food community for their support.
