The Council of the Rural Municipality of Elton has issued a Burning Ban, effective immediately as of May 6, 2025, at 1:30 p.m.
All forms of burning are strictly prohibited within the Municipality during this time. This includes, but is not limited to, fire pits, burning barrels, and fireworks.
Anyone found in violation of this ban may be subject to fines and held responsible for any costs incurred by fire departments, emergency services, or the municipality in responding to and extinguishing the fire.

The RM says due to high wildfire risk, all outdoor open burning is now banned under By-law 2016-06. This includes:
-Burning of grass, leaves, crop residue, and bushes
-Any fire not contained within CSA certified fire pits or outdoor solid fuel appliances
Fires in certified appliances ARE permitted, but only if:

-Used safely and legally within municipal and provincial regulations
Even with certified appliances, burning is strongly discouraged when wind speeds exceed 25 km/h (15 mph).
Wildfire Prevention Starts With You!
Please remember:
-Never leave a fire unattended
-Keep water or a fire extinguisher nearby
-Fully extinguish fires before leaving
-Avoid riding ATVs or dirt bikes in dry, grassy areas
-Follow The Wildfires Act and Manitoba Regulation MR 77/93
Penalties for Non-Compliance:
Fines between $500–$1,000, as well as possible reimbursement of firefighting costs!
This ban will remain in effect until lifted by the Rivers Daly Fire Department Fire Chief.
