On Monday, May 5, Brandon City Council passed an amendment to revise water and wastewater rates. According to a City of Brandon release, the goal is to “recover the 2023 water utility deficit”.
In the release, the city said the new rates will be effective going back to April 1 of this year. There will be a $0.064 per cubic meter rate rider over a duration of 5 years and 6 months, concluding in 2030. The revised rate will be reflected on customers’ utility invoices starting this month.
This, according to the release, will mean an increase in the rider recovery from 22.3 cents to 28.7 cents. To offset the increased cost, the City recommends enrolling in monthly water billing, which offers a 20% discount on the administrative service charge. They also encouraged water and wastewater customers to register for electronic invoices.
