Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew says 17,000 people have been evacuated from several communities and First Nations as he placed our entire province under a state of emergency late Wednesday; over crippling wildfires, mainly in the remote north. Evacuation orders include all 5,000 residents of the city of Flin Flon, who were told just hours earlier to head south with their essentials. Kinew said when cottage owners and other nearby residents are added in, that number rises to 6,000.

The premier spoke Wednesday to Prime Minister Mark Carney, who has agreed to send in the military to deploy evacuation flights to Winnipeg as soon as possible.

Manitoba has reached 72 confirmed measles cases, a major spike this month. Provincial data shows 53 cases confirmed in May alone so far, that’s a rate of more than 2 cases per day There have also been four probable cases recorded in Manitoba this year.

A 68-year old male was arrested for Possessing child pornography and Access to child pornography. Brandon Police says following an investigation from February of 2025- into Possession of child pornography; they located and arrested the 68-year-old male Wednesday in Brandon. He was released to appear in court on August 7, 2025.

CAA Manitoba revealed the results of their annual Worst Roads campaign in Manitoba and it’s Provincial Trunk Highway 34 was named the Worst Road in Manitoba . PTH 34 is two lanes and runs north-south in the south-central region of the province. It is the main highway for the towns of Crystal City, Pilot Mound, and Holland. Almost 600 new Brandon University graduates will receive their degrees during two days of convocation celebrations this week. Four ceremonies will be held today and tomorrow at BU’s Healthy Living Centre.
