The wildfires threatening Flin Flon and the surrounding area have forced evacuations for several northern communities in Manitoba. According to a release from Manitoba RCMP, evacuations of Flin Flon and surrounding areas, Lynn Lake, Pimicikamak Cree Nation, Mathias Colomb Cree Nation and Tataskweyak Cree Nation have been completed.
In their release, RCMP said they are still assisting with the evacuation of Black Sturgeon Falls. They also asked people for patience, not only from those who have had to leave their homes but for those in other communities as well.
“A number of communities across the Province have opened up their doors to welcome evacuees during these unprecedented wildfires, which is a testament to the strength of Manitobans’ willingness to help those in need,” said the RCMP in their release. “However, with the increased flow of evacuees, the RCMP has noted an increase in the calls for service from multiple communities within its jurisdiction, diverting critical police resources away from where they’re needed most.”
RCMP also asked drivers to prepare for increased traffic as a steady flow of evacuees moves south. You may come across an RCMP checkpoint, in which case they ask for patience and to follow their instructions.
