A hot, sunny day in Brandon has the potential to give way to a heavy downpour and destructive weather this evening, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.
In an alert at 12:50 this afternoon, Environment Canada announced conditions were favorable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing large hail and strong, gusty winds in southeastern Saskatchewan, southwestern Manitoba, and the Parklands Region. They issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the area.
In their alert, they said quarter-to-twonie sized hail was a potential hazard, as were strong winds with the potential for up to 90-kilometre-per-hour gusts.
“When thunder roars, go indoors!” they urged. “Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year.”
