They say scorching heat down east caused below-normal temperatures in other regions. It’s been cooler here in Manitoba – while BC and Alberta have had heavy rain and wet snow.

A geography student from Manitoba has created an interactive website that provides up-to-date wildfire information. When Jenna Taylor was visiting family in Flin Flon from UBC Okanagan, they had to flee – and that inspired her to create the site. It includes wildfire and weather maps, as well as wind and air-quality forecasts. Flin Flon residents might be able to head home this week.

Last Friday, Brandon police revealed the tragic news that the body of missing teen, Owen Bedford, was found in the Assiniboine river. An extensive search was carried out to find the 18-year-old after he disappeared on June 15th.

We also heard from Brandon police on Friday that the suspect in a sword attack at Neelin High School was targeting people based on race. Police say there’s a ‘significant amount’ of evidence indicating his political and racial ideologies were motivators of the crime. A16-year-old boy has been charged with attempted murder.

It might be a good time to redo your passwords…for everything. A Lithuanian cybersecurity news outlet says it has uncovered a leak of 16 billion passwords that may grant access to Apple, Google, Facebook accounts and more.
Experts say if hackers get their hands on your passwords for these apps – stealing your money and identity is extremely easy. Their advice is to change your passwords regularly.

Prime Minister Mark Carney called for de-escalation on Sunday after the United States carried out strikes against three Iranian nuclear sites earlier in the day. He said ‘stability in the region is a priority’ – and has called on parties to immediately return to the negotiating table and reach a diplomatic solution.

A Brandon chef brought home the gold at ‘Grill Masters’ – a prestigious competition that featured 12 finalists from across North America. Casey Naherniak’s winning dish ‘Forest and Field’ was crafted using local ingredients
including an elk filet mignon and wild morel mushrooms. The competition was hosted by The Keg Steakhouse in Toronto.

A driver in Caledon. Ontario faces several charges after being stopped by police recently. He was travelling too slow – 30 in a 60 zone – and was holding onto a mattress on the vehicle’s roof with his left hand, while an unbuckled passenger was holding it from the back seat. Not only that – once pulled over, the driver wanted a police escort since they only had a few kilometres to go.
