The province’s preferred design for a safety upgrade to the intersection of Highway 1 and 5 near Carberry got a huge ‘no’ at a open house last night. Locals said the restricted crossing U-turn, or RCUT design, is confusing and dangerous, and they want an overpass. Officials say an RCUT is safe because it has fewer points of conflict for possible collisions, and will cost a fifth of the price of a $100-million dollar overpass. The government promised more safety features at the intersection after a deadly crash in 2023 that claimed the lives of 17 seniors.

Well, maybe it’s not a bad choice. Researchers have found beverages with a little bit of sugar, fat or protein do a better job of keeping us hydrated – and for longer…so, milk is better than water. Juice and pop are less hydrating: too much sugar – and beer is better than whiskey because you’re ingesting more fluid with beer.
