A Brandon business is pitching in to help those affected by wildfires in northern Manitoba, many of whom have been evacuated to the Brandon area.
Genesis Hospitality Management has announced they will donate $30,000 to the Canadian Red Cross wildfire relief efforts. In their release, Genesis noted the federal and provincial governments would each match the donation.
“We are grateful for the generosity of Genesis Hospitality for its support of the 2025 Manitoba Wildfires Appeal,” said Luc Mullinder, Canadian Red Cross vice-president for Saskatchewan, Manitoba and Nunavut. “Red Cross teams have been working non-stop to help people evacuated from their homes. This donation will help with efforts to assist people impacted by the numerous fires in Manitoba.”
“Supporting the regions where we live and work is part of who we are,” said Kevin Swark, Executive President of Genesis Hospitality. “Our thoughts are with everyone affected by the wildfires, and we are especially grateful to the emergency personnel who continue to put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe.”
In their release Genesis Hospitality pointed out they own and operate hotels not only in Brandon but in other cities as well, including the Victoria Inn in Flin Flon, which had to be evacuated due to wildfires earlier this season.
As of the latest provincial fire bulletin, there are 122 active wildfires burning in Manitoba.
