Brandon City Council will hold a public hearing on Monday, August 18, 2025, at City Hall to consider increasing the borrowing amount for the Southwest Brandon Wastewater Servicing Project. The proposed change would raise the borrowing limit from $30 million to $40 million to cover rising construction costs.
In a media release, the City says, “Since the initiation of this project, construction costs have risen, and additional funds are needed to ensure the project can move ahead as planned. This project is key to supporting new homes, businesses, and future development in southwest Brandon. It will help the city grow in a smart and sustainable way, while protecting public health and the environment.”
The project was put into two main phases, with each phase having several major construction projects each:
Phase 1 – 34th Street Area
• A new lift station (a pumping station that moves wastewater uphill)
• A gravity sewer to serve southwest Brandon
• A forcemain (a pressurized pipe) along Patricia Avenue
• Fibre optic cables
Phase 2 – 18th Street Area
• A second lift station south of Patricia Avenue
• A forcemain that will connect to Phase 1
• A gravity sewer for additional residential and commercial development
