A byelection to replace a school trustee will take place in Brandon on Thursday, October 16. The Board Trustee position in Ward #1 (City of Brandon) was vacated after the resignation of former Trustee Blaine Foley.
In a release on the City of Brandon’s website, the Brandon School Division said nominations would not officially open until September 4. However, anyone interested can get information ahead of time on the role of a trustee and the nomination process from the Brandon Votes website at www.brandon.ca/votes or by contacting the Election Office located on the 2nd floor, 410 – 9th Street by emailing brandonvotes@brandon.ca.
“To be a considered an eligible candidate, a person must first meet a number of criteria,” said Brandon’s Senior Election Official Heather Ewasiuk. “They must be a Canadian citizen, 18 years of age or older on the day of the by-election, and they must have resided in Brandon for a minimum of six months before the by-election date. Persons interested in running for trustee must also submit, prior to the nomination deadline, their completed nomination papers including a declaration and statement of disclosure. Nomination papers must be signed by the candidate themselves and include the verified signatures of a minimum of 25 electors of the ward.”
Potential candidates who do not meet the above requirements will be disallowed from running.
