It’s voting day in Manitoba’s Spruce Woods riding. Polls are open until 8:00 pm in 20 different polling stations across the riding, which includes a part of north Brandon. The seat has been vacant since March, when Grant Jackson resigned to run for the federal Conservatives in the April general election. The outcome of the byelection will not affect the NDP’s majority in the legislature.

Two men face charges after tossing items at the Dauphin RCMP detachment in separate incidents last weekend. Early Sunday morning, police say a 21-year-old man drove a mini van up on the curb in front of the station, got out, and tossed a beer bottle at the building – and last Friday afternoon, a 39-year-old man whipped a rock through the front window. He was also charged with assaulting a police officer.

If you want to officially complain about your experiences during the Air Canada flight attendant’s strike – expect a long wait. The backlog of complaints to the Canadian Transportation Agency was sitting at around 85,000, two days before the strike started. The lineup has been growing since Ottawa passed rules in 2019 that set compensation amounts for flight delays and cancellations.

As e-scooters become more and more popular – emergency room doctors say they’re seeing more injuries – in the last year, hospitalizations jumped 32%. A Toronto area doctor is recommending children not ride e-scooters at all, and calls on adult riders to wear helmets – as well as slowing down while riding. In Manitoba, e-scooters are not allowed on roads or bike lanes.

The coldest periods will come in late November, early December and early February. The Almanac’s people say they use a ‘secret formula’ refined by modern scientific calculations and technology to make their predictions.
