Brandon police are searching for a suspect after a shot was fired in the downtown Wednesday morning. Police say a gun was discharged inside an apartment building in the 900 block of Rosser Avenue, and the bullet went
through two rooms. There were no injuries, and police say there’s no threat to the public.

Brandon fire crews responded to a fire in the back lane of the 800 block of 7th Street on Wednesday morning. A fence was ablaze, and the flames had spread to a large spruce tree and detached garage. No-one was hurt, and police are investigating.

A 37-year-old man, reported missing from Pimicikamak Cree Nation this month, has been found dead. Geoffrey Kolomaya’s body was recovered from a marshy area near Cross Lake. And an autopsy has revealed Norwegian hiker Steffen Skjottelvik, whose body was found on the shores of the Hayes River last weekend, had died from drowning.

Speeding, distracted driving and blocked school buses – just some of the things a majority of Manitoba parents have been seeing in school zones. A CAA Manitoba survey also found many consider their child’s school zone unsafe. Next week, speed limits return to the lower 30-kilometres-an-hour for school zones.

Brandon School Division has been making room for students evacuated by wildfires. They’ve been setting up more classroom spaces, added a school bus, and are getting staff and supplies ready. BSD’s superintendent says at least two schools in the division can accommodate additional students. There are currently over 5,500 people still displaced by wildfires.

The latest teen trend on TikTok – caffeine pouches. They come in chocolate and blueberry flavours and give you a ‘zap of energy’, but the concern is that using more than one at a time can be harmful. Like nicotine pouches, they’re placed between the lips and the gums. Companies that sell the pouches online say their products are not meant for minors – and contain clear warnings about caffeine.

Brandon’s Food Truck Warz will not be returning this September. Organizers Darryl Wolski and Jody Sass say it was becoming too stressful, and too much work for a team of two. The event had been held annually for 7 years,
with last year’s at the Keystone Centre featuring over 20 food trucks.

Canada Post wants the Canadian Union of Postal Workers to align itself with the realities facing the company, and is urging the union to revisit its “best and final” offers from May. Canada Post reported a $407-million loss
in the second quarter. The corporation’s last offer included a 13-percent wage hike over 4 years – the union came back with 19-percent.
