Our Premier and Indigenous leaders have responded to the mass stabbing on Hollow Water First Nation, 2 hours north-east of Wpg yesterday. An 18-year-old woman was stabbed to death while the suspect, her 26-year-old brother Tyrone Simard, died after the stolen vehicle he was driving, collided with a vehicle driven by a police officer, who was responding to the attack. 7 people were also severely injured in 2-homes.

A new police chief has been appointed for the Manitoba First Nations Police Service. Jason Colon was named to the top position Wednesday. Colon will oversee detachments in nearly a dozen First Nation communities across Manitoba.

Parks Canada visits increased by 10 per cent with this summer’s Canada Strong Pass. The Canada Strong Pass, which took effect on June 20 and was available until Sept. 2, offered free national museum admission to children 17 and under, and a 50 per cent discount for those aged 18 to 24.

It’s a unique way to learn about Brandon’s history from the characters who lived through it but are no longer living — yet will come alive this weekend for Gossip in the Graveyard.
