A 20-year-old Brandon man has been arrested for accessing and possessing child pornography. Police received a tip, back in March, from the Online Child Exploitation and Abuse Network saying child sex abuse material had been uploaded to Dropbox by a user in Brandon. A suspect was arrested at a home on Maryland Avenue this week and electronics were seized.

The Mounties are once again reminding everyone to be aware of telephone scams targeting senior citizens. In the past few months, four elderly Flin Flon residents have reported receiving calls from a scammer claiming to be
either a relative or a lawyer asking for bail money. In two cases, thousands of dollars were sent through the mail. If you get a call like this – just hang up.

A new ‘crisis response unit’ will soon be hitting the streets of Brandon. The initiative came out of recent police service consultations about downtown public safety. The units will pair a police officer with a psychiatric nurse to help respond to mental health calls.

Technical and clerical workers at Manitoba Hydro have ratified a new collective agreement. The three-year deal provides wage increases of 9.5%, along with additional increases for the lowest-paid and long-service employees.

Canada and Indonesia have signed new agreements on trade and defence cooperation. Prime Minister Mark Carney calls the deals ‘game-changing’ and will open trade in multiple industries. He says once fully implemented, over 95% of the tariffs on Canada’s current exports to Indonesia will be reduced or eliminated.

It says there is ‘no conclusive evidence’ that using Tylenol as directed during pregnancy can cause autism or other neurodevelopmental disorders in newborns. It’s the latest pushback on claims made by American president Donald Trump. The agency says there are risks to an unborn child if fever and pain in pregnant women go untreated.

A new study warns there is no safe limit of alcoholic drinks when it comes to the potential risks of developing dementia. Previous research had suggested moderate and light drinking might have a protective effect, but this new study has found any amount of alcohol increased the risk of dementia.

A teaching assistant in a South Carolina school was arrested and charged with using a fart spray on students. The 32-year-old guy had used the spray multiple times leading some kids to seek medical attention. The spray also
caused $55,000 in damage to the school’s air conditioning system.
