After being closed for more than two years, the Community Sportsplex ice arena in Brandon will officially re-open to skaters on Wednesday, October 1.
In a release, the City said they have assessed the facility and worked with the community to make the re-opening possible. They’ve invested in repairs to the facility, which was closed in March of 2023 due to safety concerns with an aging ammonia ice plant.
“We’re excited to reopen the ice arena at the Sportsplex,” said Mayor Jeff Fawcett. “The community asked for ice to return, and we delivered. This isn’t just about a facility; it’s about supporting the sports and activities that matter to Brandon. The Sportsplex is a key part of staying active and connected, and we’re glad to have it back.”
“From learn-to-skate programs to figure skating and high-performance hockey programs, the ice arena at the Sportsplex will continue to be a cornerstone in our community,” said Perry Roque, Director of Parks and Recreation Services. “Having the ice arena ready to reopen means more opportunities for youth programming, team sports, and healthy living.”
Public programming will begin on October 1 for the newly re-opened arena, while ice rentals will begin on October 6. The City also announced a grand re-opening celebration on October 11 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
