Canada Post workers have walked off the job in a nation-wide strike in response to the federal government announcing major reforms to the corporation. The changes include ending home delivery, and moving non-urgent
mail by ground instead of air with the goal being to save money. Canada Post lost $407-million dollars in the second quarter.

The Manitoba government is proposing longer detentions in detox for highly intoxicated people as a way to deal with the province’s growing meth problem. If passed, a new bill would extend the current 24-hour maximum to ensure people are seen by health professionals. Police also support the bill saying meth is a factor in the rise of violent crime.

Nearly 70 people showed up for a joint ward meeting this week at Brandon’s Riverview Curling Club, and while several topics were on the agenda, safety around Maryland Park School reportedly dominated. Residents raised concerns about the new roundabout and crosswalks and complained about drivers speeding, not stopping at four-ways, and driving on the wrong side of the road.

A byelection for reeve will be held in the RM of Cornwallis. The municipality’s administrative officer hopes it can held before the end of November. The byelection was triggered after former reeve Sam Hofer resigned in April,
following an investigation he contravened the Municipal Act.

The annual Souris ‘Scarecrow Days’ is on this weekend. It all started this morning and features a town-wide yard sale, barbecues, a biggest pumpkin competition, and screenings of ET: The Extraterrestrial every night at the Avalon theatre. Scarecrow Days runs through Sunday.

Puppets and props from Muppets creator Jim Henson’s extensive career will go up for auction next month, including pieces from shows like ‘Fraggle Rock’ and ‘The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance.’ There are also calendars autographed by Miss Piggy herself. More than 400 items – props, costumes, set pieces, posters and puppets – will be available.

farm-to-table, rizz, and dad bod – also beast mode, dashcam, doomscroll, and side eye. The aim is to try and boost sales of the hard-copy dictionary. Their website, by the way, gets a billion visits a year.
